“Having grown up without a father, I really appreciate the Club giving me a male role-model to spend time with. My mentor always encouraged me to be the best I could be. He was a real father figure who I could talk to when I needed it most.”
Gabe, our 2017 Youth of the Year winner, is an accomplished basketball and volleyball player. Academically, he is ranked 13 out of a class of 300. Due to his success in school, and his dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon, Gabe has been accepted to attend the prestigious Brandeis Global Youth Medicine Summit this summer. At the Summit, he will enjoy unparalleled networking opportunities with the leaders of the global medical community.
Gabe never had a computer or internet in his apartment. Without the Club’s technology center, he couldn’t do research or complete online assignments. Gabe admits that without his mentor, John Velis, and the Immersion Program, he may not have discovered science based careers like orthopedic surgery at all.
You may not realize it, but you played a huge role in Gabe’s journey.
